Eastern Box Turtles are threatened by loss of habitat, road traffic, use of chemicals, and collection for use as pets. They are resilient, but no where near as abundant as they were a mere fifty years ago when I was a young child growing up next to Winton Woods.
Monarch Butterflies are so much more than just an amazing story of long distance migration. They are the canaries in the mine in many ways, and draw attention to the problems that are threatening all pollinators and other wildlife.
This majestic Red-tailed Hawk was perched on the top of a utility pole in a field directly across the street from a local high school. Behind it was a McDonalds, a Taco Bell, and a Harley Davidson shop. I captured additional photos of this bird with one of each of the signs in each image.
